Windows Program: BackgroundFader

Dec0107Dec 01, 07

BackgroundFader changes your background periodically, with a nice fading transition made to simulate the Mac OS X background rotation. You Specify a folder in which you have stored backgrounds, and the time between changes. BackgroundFader is free, and only 212kb (the size of a very small image).

You should know:

  • BackgroundFader only works with images that have the same height:width ratio as your screen.
  • It is always best to use images that are exactly the same size as your screen.
  • To download millions of stunning wallpapers in the correct size, I recommend
  • BackgroundFader somewhat covers desktop icons during image fading.
  • I actually use BackgroundFader.

About Jason Miller:

I am a JavaScript developer from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. When I am not typing green code onto a black screen, you might find me at the nearest coffee pub checking out the brew. I run a internet firm called developIT and maintain blogs and web apps when I can.
overall, i would rate this version of background fader a 7.5/10. not bad for a beta!
it does what it's supposed to, but seems to take a few re-starts to run without flashing the taskbar or dock. otherwise, the main issue is that when you restart with it set to run on startup, it shows up as a black box in the middle of the screen and you have to scroll the mouse over it to get the buttons and boxes to show up. maybe a suggestion would be to just let it run on startup without showing the options again?

all in all though, it does a nice job of fading through all of your backgrounds, and is great if you normally enjoy the background fader on mac and want to have it run on your windows as well

keep developing it :)
