Gmail.app 0.5
Jan1910Jan 19, 10

Gmail.app is Gmail for your Mac OS X machine. It uses Prism to wrap Gmail in a warm and fuzzy layer of Apple, and features new mail notifications (requires the Growl framework), unread message count on the dock icon, and playing sounds when messages are received. Hit the link below to download.

Installation Note:
Gmail.app will only run when placed in your Mac's Applications folder. Anywhere else, it will not start up.

Gmail shows up in my growl applications list yet your application (installed in my Applications folder per your installation note) does not show the badges or any of the other notifications. Any ideas? Should I download the framework kit off Growl's site; and if so where does that install?
Thanks!
There could be a few reasons you are not seeing any new mail notifications. My first inclination is that the recent update Google pushed out for Gmail has renamed some of the menu items, which makes the Gmail.app unread count fail without warning. I will check tonight to see if this is the case. I don't think the error is coming from Growl, because the dock badges are independent of that framework. Growl 1.2 should be sufficient, and the Gmail app is shown in your preferences. I will release an update to Gmail.app if I find that the unread notifications code has been broken by the Gmail update.

Any news on an update? Would you be willing to open source your custom scripts, put them up on Google Code or Github? I'd love to be able to help out with this, but just a small introduction to the changes you made to get this all working would be great.
My *script-fu is pretty good. Drop me a line if you're interested. I'd know how to scrape the new message count, I just don't know how the heck to update the badge icon.

Thanks for your inquiry, and make sure to keep me posted if you update it!
